Composite Bonding
A conservative, minimally invasive way to reshape and refresh your smile — often in a single visit.
A gentle way to reshape your teeth
Composite bonding lets us make meaningful cosmetic changes to your teeth without removing healthy tooth structure. By applying a tooth-coloured resin material directly to the surface, your dentist can carefully sculpt and reshape a tooth to improve its appearance — conservatively and precisely.
Because little or no enamel needs to be removed in most cases, composite bonding is often one of the gentler cosmetic options available. It’s a particularly good fit for patients who want to improve their smile without committing to a more involved procedure.
Composite bonding is well-suited to a range of cosmetic concerns, including:
- Small chips in a tooth
- Spaces or gaps between teeth
- Minor irregularities in tooth shape or alignment
- Teeth that appear too short, narrow, or uneven
- Worn or flattened edges
- Mild discolouration or surface staining
Because the resin is applied and shaped by hand, your dentist has a high degree of control over the final result — adjusting the shape, size, and shade to suit your surrounding teeth and facial features.
Treatment typically begins with a light preparation of the tooth surface to help the resin bond effectively. Your dentist then applies the composite material in layers, sculpting it to the desired shape before hardening it with a curing light. Once set, the surface is refined and polished to blend naturally with the rest of your smile. In many cases, composite bonding can be completed in a single appointment, without the need for a temporary restoration or a return visit.
Composite bonding is a durable option, but it does require some care to keep it looking its best over time. Compared to porcelain veneers, composite resin is more susceptible to staining and surface wear, so it may need polishing or minor touch-ups periodically. Avoiding habits such as nail biting, chewing on hard objects, or heavy consumption of staining foods and drinks will help extend the life of your bonding. Regular six-monthly check-ups give your dentist the opportunity to monitor the condition of your bonding and address any wear before it becomes a problem.
Composite bonding works well for patients with specific, localised concerns — a chipped edge, an uneven tooth, a small gap — where a conservative approach is preferred. It is also commonly used alongside other cosmetic treatments, such as teeth whitening, to fine-tune results. For more significant cosmetic changes, or where greater longevity is a priority, your dentist may discuss porcelain veneers or other options as part of your consultation. As with all cosmetic treatment at Central Dental Group, the recommendation will always be based on what’s genuinely right for your teeth — not just what’s most commonly requested.
