Natural-looking results, with your long-term health in mind

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They can make a significant difference to the appearance of teeth that have been affected by wear, staining, chips, or uneven development — while still looking like a natural part of your smile.

At Central Dental Group, enamel preservation is a priority throughout the process. Where we can, we aim to keep as much healthy tooth structure intact as possible during preparation, so the long-term health of your teeth remains at the centre of every cosmetic decision.

Porcelain veneers are a long-term commitment, and they’re not always the most appropriate path to the result a patient is looking for. Rather than treating every case the same way, we take the time to assess whether veneers are genuinely the most suitable option for your teeth — or whether another approach might achieve a healthier outcome.

Depending on your situation, alternatives worth considering may include:

  • Teeth whitening — where discolouration is the primary concern, whitening is non-invasive and preserves the tooth entirely
  • Orthodontic treatment — where alignment or spacing is the issue, straightening the teeth can be a better long-term solution
  • Composite bonding — a more conservative option that requires little or no enamel removal, and can address many of the same cosmetic concerns

Our goal is to recommend what’s genuinely right for your teeth. If porcelain veneers are the best option, we’ll tell you. If something else will serve you better over time, we’ll tell you that too.

When porcelain veneers are the right choice, each one is designed from scratch — not from a standard template. Your dentist considers your facial features, the relationship between your upper and lower teeth, and the overall balance of your smile to arrive at a result that looks natural and well-suited to you specifically.

Clinical photography and digital imaging are used at this stage so you can see a clear picture of the proposed outcome before treatment begins. The shade, shape, and proportions of each veneer are chosen with your input, so there are no surprises when the final result is placed.

Porcelain veneers are made off-site by a dental laboratory from a precise digital impression of your teeth, which means treatment typically takes more than one visit to complete.

At your first appointment, your dentist will prepare the tooth surface, take a digital scan, and fit a temporary restoration while your veneers are being crafted.

At the second appointment, the finished veneers are checked for fit and shade, then bonded permanently to the tooth surface and polished to a smooth finish.

With proper care, porcelain veneers are a durable, long-lasting cosmetic option. They are more resistant to staining than composite resin, and their ceramic surface holds up well over time with regular maintenance.

To help your veneers last as long as possible, it’s worth avoiding habits such as chewing on hard objects or biting fingernails, and limiting foods and drinks that are known to cause staining.

Regular six-monthly check-ups allow your dentist to monitor the condition of your veneers and address any concerns early.
